Government endorses the Data Protection and Use Policy

Published
We're excited to announce that the Government has endorsed the Data Protection and Use Policy (DPUP).

Over 1,000 people, social service providers and government agencies provided input to the Policy’s development. Without this valuable contribution the Policy wouldn’t reflect the diverse and important views of the sector.

Want to know more?

Full details of the policy, including information on implementation and adoption, can be found on the Data Protection and Use Policy website(external link).

Next steps

In the next few months, implementation will start with a small foundational group of government agencies and NGOs. This group will help build practical tools and experience to help others in the social sector to progressively adopt the Policy.

We’re excited to announce that five government agencies have agreed to join the foundational group. They are:

  • Ministry of Education
  • Ministry of Health
  • Ministry of Social Development
  • Oranga Tamariki, and
  • Social Investment Agency (SIA).

We will soon start talking to other NGOs and service provider organisations about joining the foundational group. If you’re interested, we’d be keen to hear from you.

In the next few months we’ll also be establishing a dedicated support function to help organisations to adopt the Policy. Until then, please get in touch with us by email if you have any questions — dpup@sia.govt.nz
